HONOURING JOAN DAVIDSON

Joan Davidson was the long-serving and inspirational Head of Learning for Edinburgh Science, dedicated to inspiring young people to explore, study and develop a lifelong love of science and technology.

Her deep-rooted commitment to equality and her belief that every child deserved a fighting chance, and that learning can help empower them to face whatever the world might throw at them (and that if it can be great fun in the process then so much the better), made her an exceptional champion of Edinburgh Science’s learning programmes.

In her time with Edinburgh Science, she oversaw the delivery of inspirational learning events such as Generation Science and Careers Hive, events and experiences which reached over half a million young people, changed the lives of many of them through her passion for sharing knowledge, championing the underdog and flying of the flag for women in science.

Her sudden death has left so many people shocked and wanting to find a way to honour and mark both her spirit and legacy.

"Half a million children reached through Joan's work. Tens of talented science communicators brought together. She helped me with so many projects over the years, despite me spraying her with water during my first interview."
